Everywhere

KeysWhat they do
Ctrl + KOpens the command palette. Press again to close it.
EscCloses the command palette, or the menu on a phone or tablet.

The command palette is the quickest way around YARDtwin. Type a few letters and choose from:

  • Bookings: type at least two characters of a booking code, truck registration, trailer number, reference, driver or carrier name to find a booking and open its timeline.
  • Go to: any page your role can open.
  • Actions: Create new booking, Switch site → … (if you work at more than one site) and Sign out.

Use ↑ and ↓ to move through the list and Enter to choose. The Search box at the top of each screen opens the same palette. See Find your way around.

Dialogs

KeysWhat they do
EscCloses a confirmation or reason dialog without doing anything, the same as Cancel. Also closes a document preview.
Tab / Shift + TabMoves between the buttons and fields of a dialog.
EnterIn a dialog that asks for a reason, submits it.

Scheduling board

KeysWhat they do
Ctrl + ZUndoes your last change on the board, such as dragging a booking to another time or dock, or changing its status. The last 10 changes can be undone. Cancellations and no-shows can't be undone this way.
EnterIn the search box, runs the search.

Ctrl + Z does nothing while you're typing in a box. See The scheduling board.

Layout builder

KeysWhat they do
Ctrl + ZUndo.
Ctrl + YRedo.
Delete or BackspaceDeletes the selected road, zone or location.
EscDeselects, goes back to the select tool, and throws away a zone or road you hadn't finished drawing.
EnterFinishes the zone or road you're drawing. A zone needs at least 3 points and a road at least 2.

None of these keys act on the layout while you're typing in a field or choosing from a list: there, Ctrl + Z undoes your typing and Backspace deletes text. Click on the plan first to use them on the layout.

See Layout builder.

Yard map

KeysWhat they do
EscIn full-screen view (Maximise yard map), the first press hides the slide-out menu if it's open. The next press leaves full-screen view.

Gate and dock

KeysWhereWhat they do
EscGate scan screenSame as Cancel: stops the camera and goes back to the arrivals list. With a booking open, it asks Leave this check-in? first. Not while you're typing in a box or a dialog is open.
EnterGate scan screen, booking code boxLooks up the booking.
EnterYard check, trailer boxRecords the trailer and clears the box for the next one.
EnterDock monitor, pallet boxAdds the pallet and clears the box for the next one.
EnterDriver kiosk, reference boxFinds the driver's booking.
Note

On the gate scan screen, Esc leaves the screen only when nothing else is using it. While the cursor is in a box (the booking code, a reason) or a dialog is open (a checklist item, a denial reason), Esc doesn't leave the screen. With a booking open, it asks Leave this check-in?: tap Leave to go back to the arrivals list, or Stay (or press Esc again) to carry on. So a stray key press can't throw away a check-in in progress.

Barcode scanners

YARDtwin doesn't need special settings for a handheld barcode scanner. A scanner that types like a keyboard and ends with Enter works in any box that has the cursor in it. On the yard check, dock monitor and driver kiosk screens, the cursor is already in the scan box, so you can scan straight away. On the gate scan screen, tap the booking code box first. The gate and dock screens can also use the device's camera to read QR codes and barcodes.
